The footway of McNeil Drive at Eurocentral has now been upgraded to shared use. However, there were no signs on the wide footways around the B799 Bo'ness Road roundabouts at the adjacent motorway junction which, according to the M8/A8 upgra ... [more]

The cycleway between Eurocentral and Shawhead is open at last!

A single uncontrolled sliproad crossing with 'Cyclists Dismount' signs (see #51057) has been replaced with two uncontrolled sliproad crossings, without signs. No attempt to line up the footway with the crossings.

Extremely poor finishing at the expansion joint at the north end of the Eurocentral bridge over the M8 motorway.

The remains of the buffer strip (see also #51059) separating the shared-use footway from the carriageway can just be seen.

Another set of pedestrian crossings to revert to the west side of the A8 Eurocentral junction, since there is no footway around the western side of the roundabout anymore.

As with #100118, the crossing of the A8 is a pedestrian crossing.

Despite the toucan crossing at #100117, all of the other crossings at the A8 Eurocentral junction are pedestrian crossings. It's almost as if they have forgotten that this is/was a shared use route.

A split toucan crossing on Townhead Avenue, Eurocentral, with an HGV combo stopped some way forward of the stopline on the far side.

A split toucan crossing across Townhead Avenue at Eurocentral. I don't know which direction the 'Cyclists Dismount' sign applies to. The kid on the bike took no notice of it.

The cyclepath doesn't run directly to the toucan crossing, necessitating sharp turns, when the desireline is across open land.

The M8 cycle path approaching Eurocentral.

The cyclepath, A8 dual carriageway and M8 motorway approaching Eurocentral. I'm sure it would have been possible to design a more economical A8 road layout at this point. The road to the right is a field/land access with next to no traff ... [more]

The cyclepath and westbound A8 cross the M8 motorway.

The Carnbroe foot and cycle bridge over the A8 dual carriageway. Why no direction sign? I know where it leads to, but that's not the point.

The path from Eurocentral to Shawhead alongside the A8 dual carriageway. Closed ahead, see #99666.

The path from Eurocentral to Shawhead alongside the A8 dual carriageway. Closed ahead.

A short section of potholed road on Carnbroe Road. Is there an equivalent section of missing surface on the newly built M8 motorway? I'm guessing there isn't.

The view from the bridge over the M8 motorway on Carnbroe Road, looking towards Coatbridge.

Carnbroe Road approaching the bridge over the new M8 motorway.

Directions along the route from Strathclyde Business Park we are then told is a 'No Through Road' in #99868.

Beware of cycles on the cycle path! This is not a 'No Through Road' for cycling.

Give Way at Strathclyde Business Park.

The path to Strathclyde Business Park. See the comments at #99651 concerning the bridge ahead.

The path alongside this section of the A725. It ends at Strathclyde Business Park. Why not continue on to Strathclyde Country Park?

Motorway regulations apply henceforth. A bit bigger than the equivalent cycle route confirmation sign.

This had better be an important sign to be positioned so close to the cyclepath.

I'm not sure what the best way to Uddingston from here would be, but the path on the left leads as far as Strathclyde Business Park. You'd have to find your own way from there. If you were approaching from this direction, you'd have been ... [more]

A passing place on the farm access road and M8 cycle route in the Douglas Support Estate.

An expensive farm access road over the M8 motorway to Shawhead Farm.

The farm access road turns south towards the Douglas Support estate woods. A triangular junction with the road to Shawhead Farm.

The farm access road and cycle route adjacent to the M8 motorway.

The farm access road alongside the new M8 motorway continues as a single track road.

The farm access road alongside the new M8 motorway has a direct connection to the 'all purpose' A8 dual carriageway, which, as the sign says, is unsuitable for pedestrians and cyclists.

More signs. They would make more sense facing the other way, come to think of it.

The foot and cycle bridge over the M8 motorway and A8 dual carriageway to the Showcase Cinema and Kirkwood, but why the gate?

A sign for the footbridge over the M8 motorway and A8 dual carriageway to the Showcase Cinema and Kirkwood.

The reverse view of #99830 shows this access road leads only to this piece of land. The route ahead becomes a cyclepath.

The cyclepath becomes a farm access road again. I doubt there's much traffic to give way to (see #99831).

The M8 cyclepath crossing the A8 sliproad and A752 at grade. No tactiles at this side.

The M8 cyclepath crossing the A752-A8 sliproad at grade. Why are some 'Give Way' and other signs lit but not other similar signs at this junction?

The M8 cyclepath crossing NCN75 and the A752 at grade. Signage this way for NCN75 but not straight ahead to Glasgow.

The M8 cyclepath crosses the busy A752 road and A8 sliproad at grade. Why only a flyover for motorists? And no directions facing this way for NCN75 other than a Sustrans sticker.

Some path damage due to construction traffic on the new cyclepath adjacent to the M8 motorway approaching the A752 crossing.

A downhill section on the farm access road and cycle route adjacent to the new M8 motorway. The Showcase foot and cycle bridge can be seen in the distance.

Farm access road and cycle route alongside the new M8 motorway.

Why is the route sign so far away from the junction?

Give Way. Just do it!

The new kissing gate (replacing #51060) has been blocked by Heras fencing. Wonderful! There is meant to be a cycle route being constructed between Calderbank and Eurocentral, coming through here.

The path alongside the A8 dual carriageway is closed from here to Shawhead due to subsidence. But no diversion is signed and there is no indication at the previous junction that this path is therefore a dead-end. See also #99662.

"Cyclists Rejoin Carriageway" but no dropped kerb to enable that. Pathetic!

I was reading the other day that David Hembrow likes cycle paths constructed out of concrete for their smoothness. He won't like this one however, because even without all the stones and muck it is still extremely bumpy! The shared footw ... [more]

If you can't read the sign next to the bridge, and don't know which side of this barrier to pass, no worries - it's pointing the wrong way anyway! See also #97669 and #99654.

The path to Eurocentral has still to open (due to subsidence, see #97667) but no diversion has been signed.

A shared-use sign on Kirkshaws Road. I did check and there was no evidence as to whether the shared-use footway continued further or where it might end.

A route sign pointing in an ambiguous direction, and no clue as to how one should rejoin the carriageway. All of the crossings are for pedestrians only. The shared-use footway does continue around the corner to the left into Kirkshaws Road.

The shared-use footway alongside the A725 into Coatbridge, with some users.

The shared-use path shares the bridge over the A8 dual carriageway with the A725.

Signs at the junction of bridges over the massive Shawhead road junction. You'll know where you're going if coming from Eurocentral? The route to/from Eurocentral is shut just now in any case, with no signed diversion.

Bridges across the massive Shawhead road junction.

If you are coming from Bellshill, this is the first sign to say this footway is shared-use.

If you want to go south to Bellshill you must first go north to go around the end of this barrier. And if you're coming south you need to pick a side and hope you've picked the right side when you get to the direction sign in #99653. See al ... [more]

Two of these signs are pointing in the wrong direction. With non-logical routes involving multiple turns for destinations served by direct roads, it's important that signs can't be turned around. The signs on the M8 motorway in the backgrou ... [more]

The new bridge over the A8 and M8 for Bredisholm Road is still not quite ready! Note that the sign on the left says it's a No Through Road, but the sign on the right gives destinations reachable via this road. Highly illogical! But no me ... [more]
