The Wester Way alongside Phase 4 of the Bishopbriggs Relief Road. The lampposts have been planted in the path rather than alongside it (as has been done on the adjacent road), but other than this, it is built to a reasonable standard, an ... [more]

The footway of McNeil Drive at Eurocentral has now been upgraded to shared use. However, there were no signs on the wide footways around the B799 Bo'ness Road roundabouts at the adjacent motorway junction which, according to the M8/A8 upgra ... [more]

The presumed shared-use footway alongside the road up to Palacerigg Country Park doesn't have a dropped kerb opposite Tannoch Road, making it difficult to join from the side road.

The cycleway between Eurocentral and Shawhead is open at last!

Extremely poor finishing at the expansion joint at the north end of the Eurocentral bridge over the M8 motorway.

The remains of the buffer strip (see also #51059) separating the shared-use footway from the carriageway can just be seen.

A split toucan crossing across Townhead Avenue at Eurocentral. I don't know which direction the 'Cyclists Dismount' sign applies to. The kid on the bike took no notice of it.

The cyclepath doesn't run directly to the toucan crossing, necessitating sharp turns, when the desireline is across open land.

The M8 cycle path approaching Eurocentral.

The cyclepath, A8 dual carriageway and M8 motorway approaching Eurocentral. I'm sure it would have been possible to design a more economical A8 road layout at this point. The road to the right is a field/land access with next to no traff ... [more]

The cyclepath and westbound A8 cross the M8 motorway.

The path to Strathclyde Business Park. See the comments at #99651 concerning the bridge ahead.

The path alongside this section of the A725. It ends at Strathclyde Business Park. Why not continue on to Strathclyde Country Park?

The reverse view of #99830 shows this access road leads only to this piece of land. The route ahead becomes a cyclepath.

The cyclepath becomes a farm access road again. I doubt there's much traffic to give way to (see #99831).

The M8 cyclepath crossing the A752-A8 sliproad at grade. Why are some 'Give Way' and other signs lit but not other similar signs at this junction?

The M8 cyclepath crossing NCN75 and the A752 at grade. Signage this way for NCN75 but not straight ahead to Glasgow.

The M8 cyclepath crosses the busy A752 road and A8 sliproad at grade. Why only a flyover for motorists? And no directions facing this way for NCN75 other than a Sustrans sticker.

No signs to say this is a shared-use footway, but according to my map from the council, this is where Cumbernauld Cycle Network routes 4 and 4a are to be found. The roundabout appears to be built on a different plane from the rest of the ... [more]

"Cyclists Rejoin Carriageway" but no dropped kerb to enable that. Pathetic!

I was reading the other day that David Hembrow likes cycle paths constructed out of concrete for their smoothness. He won't like this one however, because even without all the stones and muck it is still extremely bumpy! The shared footw ... [more]

If you can't read the sign next to the bridge, and don't know which side of this barrier to pass, no worries - it's pointing the wrong way anyway! See also #97669 and #99654.

A shared-use sign on Kirkshaws Road. I did check and there was no evidence as to whether the shared-use footway continued further or where it might end.

A route sign pointing in an ambiguous direction, and no clue as to how one should rejoin the carriageway. All of the crossings are for pedestrians only. The shared-use footway does continue around the corner to the left into Kirkshaws Road.

The shared-use footway alongside the A725 into Coatbridge, with some users.

The shared-use path shares the bridge over the A8 dual carriageway with the A725.

If you are coming from Bellshill, this is the first sign to say this footway is shared-use.

A 'Cyclists Dismount' sign at a pedestrian crossing? Why hasn't a toucan crossing been installed here?

No option for taking a shortcut down the embankment. Pedestrians have to walk this unnecessary distance too!

If the route to Bellshill and Coatbridge is so important, why does the shared-use footway alongside the A725 basically peter out at the top of Bogs Brae?

So tell me again why there isn't a ramp from the far side of this bridge directly towards Strathclyde Country Park to the right?

The most indirect route possible has been chosen for the cycle route between Bothwell and Strathclyde Country Park through the Raith Interchange.

An enforced sharp double-back to get to cross the new cycle bridge across the Raith Interchange roundabout coming from Strathclyde Country Park. Very poor design!

A new cycle bridge across the Raith Interchange roundabout, but you have to go under it and a distance up the road towards Bellshill because there isn't a ramp coming from Strathclyde Country Park.

Crossing of Robberhall Road, which is signed for Edinburgh, so rather more than just a local road. This side is signed here as shared-use, the opposite side is the start of the line-segregated path through the Ravenscraig site to Carfin.

No dropped kerb for access from the road at the start of the path from Eurocentral to Holytown.

The western branch of the path from Holytown to Eurocentral.

The path from Holytown to Eurocentral would be even better if the lampposts had been placed outside the width of the path. As it is they create an unnecessary narrowing at each post.

The path from Holytown to Eurocentral.

The start of the path from Holytown to Eurocentral, at the sports centre car park. I don't know what the bollard is supposed to achieve.

Crossing Main Street. I didn't bother trying to use the footway of the road to the sports centre on the far side of the road.

The cycle route from Holytown station slowly but surely edging nearer to Eurocentral.

"Give Cycle Space" - in this case the cycle space is through the Scotmid car park.

The shared use footway in Holytown just can't keep the same alignment for very long.

The Holytown shared footway crossing Windsor Road.

A box in the middle of the Holytown shared footway.

Shared footway in Holytown narrowed by works alongside.

Shared footway in Holytown.

The first obstruction on the Holytown to Eurocentral cycle route. A corner, post and phonebox combination.

The start of the cycle route from Holytown station to Eurocentral.

The NCN75 crosses the Showcase Cinema access road on this zebra crossing without the usual Belisha Beacons or zig-zags.

Uncontrolled crossing of A8 sliproad at the Showcase Cinema roundabout.

A narrow "converted" footway alongside the A752, where I had to go onto the rough strip next to the carriageway to pass someone coming the other way.

A solitary shared use sign on Lenziemill Road near Greenfaulds station. The footway continues in a slightly wider state until the A73 junction where it ends without linking to anything.

Incorrect signage on shared footway at Calderwood Village development, and top surface missing. The direction sign for Chapelhall and Airdrie in the background is somewhat premature!

An 'End of Cycle Route' sign on the shared use footway at Calderwood Village development.

Incorrect shared footway signage at Calderwood Village development.

Incorrect route sign at junction between Cumbernauld cycle routes 1e and 1f. 1e goes to Condorrat East to the right, 1f to Condorrat West (and Dalshannon) to the left.

A 'Cyclists Dismount' sign for a (non-Toucan) pedestrian crossing on Cumbernauld's cycle route 2, and then the route continues along a narrow footway around the perimeter of the Tesco car park.

Van parked on shared-use cycleway path over A8 bridge

Road crossing at Eurocentral A8 eastbound off-slip, with both Cyclists Dismount signs facing the same way.

Dropped kerbs missing at closed-down filling station entrance on NCN75 shared-use footway, or maybe they just forgot to install them and left them lying across the entrance!

Car parking on the NCN75 shared-use footway through Plains is common

A752 footway widened to make it shared-use for NCN75, then narrowed by having new streetlighting poles installed within the width of the footway. Shared use sign has at least been installed in the grass, outside of the footway. No buffer zo ... [more]
