Photo listing : cycleways (problem)

The most recent photos are listed first. See also photomap view.

This listing only shows photos within Cumbernauld.

I was reading the other day that David Hembrow likes cycle paths constructed out of concrete for their smoothness. He won't like this one however, because even without all the stones and muck it is still extremely bumpy! The shared footw ... [more]

The M8 cyclepath crossing the A8 sliproad and A752 at grade. No tactiles at this side.

The M8 cyclepath crossing the A752-A8 sliproad at grade. Why are some 'Give Way' and other signs lit but not other similar signs at this junction?

The M8 cyclepath crossing NCN75 and the A752 at grade. Signage this way for NCN75 but not straight ahead to Glasgow.

Unfortunately the paths and crossing do not align, on this newly built estate. Very poor planning.

According to my map from the council, Cumbernauld Cycle Network route 4 turns the corner here, which may account for the difference in path widths. But no signs.

No option for taking a shortcut down the embankment. Pedestrians have to walk this unnecessary distance too!

So tell me again why there isn't a ramp from the far side of this bridge directly towards Strathclyde Country Park to the right?

The most indirect route possible has been chosen for the cycle route between Bothwell and Strathclyde Country Park through the Raith Interchange.

An enforced sharp double-back to get to cross the new cycle bridge across the Raith Interchange roundabout coming from Strathclyde Country Park. Very poor design!

Crossing Main Street. I didn't bother trying to use the footway of the road to the sports centre on the far side of the road.

The end of the Ravenscraig cycleway and the provision at the A723/B7066 roundabout. Cyclists to merge onto the road, with sliplanes provided both sides. Hopefully this will be rectified when the road is dualled. A new footway/cycleway is pr ... [more]

End of the line-segregated cycleway through Ravenscraig. Why doesn't it continue through to Craigneuk St?

The cycleway from Carfin doesn't yet extend to the end of Robberhall Road to meet the Craigneuk St roundabout cycleway.

A narrow "converted" footway alongside the A752, where I had to go onto the rough strip next to the carriageway to pass someone coming the other way.

No sign at top of ramp from underpass, where route 3 takes a sharp turn to find a step-free route through the houses.

Not really designed as a cycle route. Ramp to underpass beneath Blackthorn Road, with obstructive lighting columns.

No sign where the Cumbernauld Cycle Network's route 3 turns right, but instead a gate to guide you the right way.

Before long the asphalt ends and the path alongside the railway line gets hillier.

A short dead-end cycle track at a roundabout, that could easily continue on to the New Lanarkshire College in the background.

Cumbernauld's cycle route 2 passing a bus stop on the Condorrat Ring Road.

A Cyclists Dismount sign at the footbridge over the Condorrat Ring Road. This side of the footbridge has a ramp and steps, the other side is at ground level (see #70318).

The cycle path takes a messy route around the bus stop and footbridge.

The start of the cycle path on the left. No sign that it is a cycle path, nor that it has been assigned not just one but two route numbers! And not a single sign along its length to say where it goes.

A nice smooth curve in the junction at the end of the footbridge, but no signs for cycle route 2. [It goes straight ahead, to #70616.]

Path/track in need of a bit of attention!

Overhanging vegetation narrowing path on ramp down from A8 bridge across from Eurocentral

Path along former railway embankment, with dip then steep slope to scramble down to get to woodlands track. Hopefully this stretch will be improved shortly.

On the left the path along former railway embankment to Eurocentral, on the right steps to bridge across North Calder Water to Calderbank.

Rebuilt shallow steps, with wheeling ramp, on path from Calderbank to Eurocentral

Short tunnel beneath B802, with lots of broken glass on the path surface

Narrow path to Calderbank, with lots of impinging vegetation. The barb wire of the fence is broken in some places and has been known to be found on the path surface.

NCN75 shared-use footway alongside A89 on the east side of Plains, especially narrow across bridge over North Calder Water

Dropped kerbs missing at closed-down filling station entrance on NCN75 shared-use footway, or maybe they just forgot to install them and left them lying across the entrance!

Needlessly sharp corner on NCN75, on rebuilt path next to new school

Cyclists Dismount sign at the Plains end of the cyclepath from Bathgate. Are cyclists meant to walk to Airdrie where NCN 75 recommences?

Subsidence on the Luggie Glen path

Subsidence on the Luggie Glen path

Overgrowing vegetation on the Luggie Glen path

Off-ramp to Drumpellier Business Park, but cyclists expected to know where they are going, so sign only provided on adjacent A89.

No dropped kerb at the end of ramp on old route of NCN 75. Route turns right onto road here. (See also #43940 and #43941)

Sign patch breaking up at Coatbridge Fountain. NCN 75 goes along footway under bridge to the left (see #43849).

No dropped kerb to get onto ramp on NCN 75

Cyclists Dismount sign at Blairhill Street bridge over NCN 75 path in Coatbridge, with poor surface under bridge

lack of ncn signage. maybe due to recent vandalism.
