The cycleway between Eurocentral and Shawhead is open at last!

The footway of McNeil Drive at Eurocentral has now been upgraded to shared use. However, there were no signs on the wide footways around the B799 Bo'ness Road roundabouts at the adjacent motorway junction which, according to the M8/A8 upgra ... [more]

A path with a decent surface linking Greengairs to Wattston and Stanrigg Memorial Park.

Road crossing at Paddock Street on the alignment of the Monkland Canal.

The remains of the buffer strip (see also #51059) separating the shared-use footway from the carriageway can just be seen.

The M8 cycle path approaching Eurocentral.

The cyclepath, A8 dual carriageway and M8 motorway approaching Eurocentral. I'm sure it would have been possible to design a more economical A8 road layout at this point. The road to the right is a field/land access with next to no traff ... [more]

A shared-use sign on Kirkshaws Road. I did check and there was no evidence as to whether the shared-use footway continued further or where it might end.

The shared-use footway alongside the A725 into Coatbridge, with some users.

The shared-use path shares the bridge over the A8 dual carriageway with the A725.

Bridges across the massive Shawhead road junction.

If you are coming from Bellshill, this is the first sign to say this footway is shared-use.

The path to Strathclyde Business Park. See the comments at #99651 concerning the bridge ahead.

The path alongside this section of the A725. It ends at Strathclyde Business Park. Why not continue on to Strathclyde Country Park?

Some path damage due to construction traffic on the new cyclepath adjacent to the M8 motorway approaching the A752 crossing.

A new cycle bridge across the Raith Interchange roundabout, but you have to go under it and a distance up the road towards Bellshill because there isn't a ramp coming from Strathclyde Country Park.

The cycleway in Strathclyde Country Park, but this gets extremely busy with pedestrians on sunny days.

The western branch of the path from Holytown to Eurocentral.

The path from Holytown to Eurocentral would be even better if the lampposts had been placed outside the width of the path. As it is they create an unnecessary narrowing at each post.

The start of the path from Holytown to Eurocentral, at the sports centre car park. I don't know what the bollard is supposed to achieve.

The cycle route from Holytown station slowly but surely edging nearer to Eurocentral.

The shared use footway in Holytown just can't keep the same alignment for very long.

The Ravenscraig cycleway joins the cycling provision at the A723/B7066 roundabout. There is no provision beyond the roundabout in any direction, so probably best to avoid the A723 northwards.

I don't think anyone will notice this repair...

The Ravenscraig cycleway at the northern crossing of Plantation Road, including provision for those going straight ahead and joining the carriageway.

The Ravenscraig cycleway passes a path across to Plantation Road.

The Ravenscraig cycleway crossing Plantation Road, with provision for anyone joining from the carriageway of Plantation Road. Note that cycleway markings haven't been reinstated after roadworks.

The Ravenscraig cycleway outside the sports centre. The entrance is at the far end of the path, then double back to get to the cycle parking.

The cycleway through Ravenscraig crosses the access road to the sports centre. Corduroy 'hazard' tactiles are used on this section, rather than the correct flat-topped 'cycleway' type, and placed so close to the crossing that people on bike ... [more]

The path to Luggiebank ahead, with a path into the Luggiebank Wood Wildlife Reserve off to the side.

According to the map from the council, the path across the road forms Route 1d of the Cumbernauld Cycle Network. No signs whatsoever!

In Cumbernauld you can actually live above your cycle path! Quite why route 2 isn't routed straight through to the school access road I don't know.

A newly surfaced section of path alongside the railway at Croy, forming part of route 5 of the Cumbernauld Cycle Network.

A newly surfaced section of path forming the Cumbernauld Cycle Network's route 5 away from Croy station.

Route 1b crosses Balloch Road at the bus stop, where there is a central island.

The cycle route goes past some back doors to get to St Mungo's church.

Nearly there! The path nears Cumbernauld town centre.

Grade-separated paths!

The step-free path to Cumbernauld town centre.

No evidence that this footway is also a cycleway, but reasonably wide and able to handle the likely foot and cycle traffic. The dropped kerbs looked like recent installations.

Cycle route 1c emerges from the underpasses onto Lenziemill Road. But without any further evidence that the footway is also a cycleway.

Route 2 in Kildrum, heading down to the footbridge at #67683.

Route 2 crosses the main carriageway of Lye Brae on a footbridge, but goes under a sliproad. The footbridge has both a ramp and steps at this end (level with ground at other end). [The concrete sculpture next to the steps can be seen to ... [more]

Robust route confirmation marker on the North Calder Heritage Trail, at a point where the path is more grass than path.

Narrow path, but adequate for this quiet leisure route. There's a steep climb away from the river ahead.

Junction of path from school and NCN75. The only signpost is at the junction in the background (see #44123).

A752 footway widened to make it shared-use for NCN75, then narrowed by having new streetlighting poles installed within the width of the footway. Shared use sign has at least been installed in the grass, outside of the footway. No buffer zo ... [more]

NCN 75 did used to come here some years ago, when it turned right under bridge in background of photo and up onto an old bridge on the far side of it to run alongside railway line to Stobcross Street.

NCN 75 ramp up to Bank Street crossing from filled-in section of Monkland Canal, but no obvious signage. See #43846 for view in opposite direction.
